b) TAN (Telephone Account Number)

Your TAN will be required whenever you ring to place or edit a bet. Once you are through to a broker, please say your full name followed by your TAN. This allows the broker to hear your TAN clearly and to access your account instantly-repeated below. To find your TAN, log into the Betfair website and go to 'My Account' and then 'Profile', your TAN is displayed within this section.

Alternatively if you would prefer the telbet operator can register an account for you and provide you with a TAN.


Placing / Editing bets

  • Once you are through to a broker you should say your full name followed by your TAN. This allows the broker to hear your TAN clearly and access your account instantly.
  • Tell us the time and the place of the race (or event), followed by the horse (team, runner) that you are interested in.
  • Once you know the odds available tell us the odds and the amount that you wish to back or lay for, remembering that layers must state the amount they wish to win if the horse is a loser, i.e. the stake.
  • Your broker will then confirm the status of your bet either Matched, Unmatched or partially filled. It is very important that you stay on the line while this is done. If your bet is Unmatched then you may adjust the odds to get it done or leave it up as an order. If at any time you ask to cancel an order, you must stay on the line until this is confirmed.
